Continuing its journey, the Dubai Metro Blue Line extends further from Dubai International City 1, traversing through Dubai International City 2 and 3, leading to Dubai Silicon Oasis, ultimately culminating at Academic City. This segment of the line spans 21km and integrates 10 stations, strategically positioned to enhance accessibility and connectivity across these significant zones.
The second route of the Blue Line seamlessly intersects with the Red Line at Al Rashidiya, establishing the Centrepoint interchange station. Its path includes pivotal stations at Mirdif and Al Warqaa before linking with the interchange station at Dubai International City 1. This segment covers a distance of 9km and comprises four stations, facilitating smoother transit experiences for passengers.
Anticipated travel times between these destinations range from 10 to 25 minutes, ensuring swift and efficient commuting options for residents and visitors alike.
A crucial component of this ambitious project involves the construction of a metro depot at Al Ruwayyah 3, extending beyond Academic City, bolstering the operational infrastructure of the expanded Blue Line.
As for the timeline, the completion of the project is earmarked for 2029, coinciding with the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro’s inauguration. The launch of tenders for the project has already commenced, with the expectation of awarding contracts to selected contractors in the coming year.
The groundbreaking phase involving tunnelling for the underground sections of the routes and stations is set to commence in 2025, paving the way for the initial trials projected to take place in 2028. This meticulous timeline underscores Dubai’s commitment to delivering an advanced and fully functional Metro Blue Line expansion within the stipulated timeframe.
